Samples of tainted food items distributed by a Mosque in Ampara have been sent to a Medical Research Institute for testing as it is suspected to be the cause of death of 3 individuals.

A police spokesman stated that an investigation has also been initiated with regard to the incident.

Three devotees died after consuming foods distributed during the annual alms giving conducted at the Vanagamuwa Jumma Mosque in, Ampara.

In addition, nearly 200 persons are receiving treatment at Samanthurai, Akkaraipattu and Ampara hospitals.

Our correspondent stated that more than 150 persons who fell sick due to consuming this food are still receiving treatment.
