Veteran Film Director Vasantha Obeysekara has passed away.

He has bid adieu in a private hospital in Colombo today at the age of 80.

Vasantha Obeysekara who was engaged in the film industry for Decades was successful in directing fabulous creations such as Walmathwuwo and Palagetiyo in 70’s and Dadayama and Kedapathaka Chaaya in 80’s.

Moreover, he directed Maruthaya, Dorakadamaaraawa and Theertha Yathra in the latter part of 90’s.

This veteran film maker possessed inborn talent of film directing which made him walk away with 11 awards including both Presidents Awards and Sarasavi Awards for the best film director and for the best screenplay.

After graduating from the University of Colombo, Obeysekara commenced his career life as a journalist.
