The Army has commenced an investigation into the suicide of a soldier who was on duty at the residence of Major General Ubaya Perera of the Gajaba Regiment.

Meanwhile, the post mortem examination is scheduled to take place on the 20th of this month.

The body of the soldier is currently kept at the Anuradhapura teaching hospital as per a court order.

However, speaking to our news team, relatives of the deceased soldier stated that his death is suspicious.

The deceased lance corporal D.B.M.Senevirathna attached to the Gajaba Regiment of Sri Lanka Army had been working as a chef at the residence of Major General Ubaya Perera at Kandana.

The soldier had returned to work from a holiday last 31st.

Several days later, army officials had informed his relatives that the corporal had faced an accident.

However, relatives of the deceased soldier have filed a complaint with Kekirawa police regarding the incident.

When our news team inquired in this regard from Army Spokesman Brigadier Roshan Senevirathna, he stated that information was received that the soldier had mentioned in a note that he is committing suicide on a personal matter.
