A mother and her son have been admitted to hospital having been injured when a police weapon misfired in Ampara- Samagipura.

The Maha-oya police officers had visited Samagipura with the intention of arresting a suspect alleged to have stolen a gold chain.

A police officer noted that the suspect had resisted arrest by attacking the police officer and attempting to escape.

During the clash between the police officer and the suspect, the officers weapon had misfired resulting in the suspect and his mother being wounded.

The two were initially admitted to Mahiyanganaya hospital but have since been transferred to Kandy hospital for further treatment.
