A petition was filed yesterday at the Supreme Court requesting that an order be issued, to the effect that, the new draft Foreign Exchange Control Act, currently entered in the parliament agenda book, is against the Sri Lankan Constitution.

The petition submitted by attorney- at- law Darshana Veraduwagey further states that if the draft act is passed the exchange control act currently implemented will be nullified.

The petitioner has pointed out that as a result of this the powers of the Sri Lanka Central Bank and the Central Bank Finance Council will be extinct and there won’t be any opportunity for taking any decision without the finance minister’s approval.
