Japan pledges assistance for reconciliation and new Constitution

Defence Minister of Japan Thomomi Inada said that action should be taken under a common basis to ensure peace in the Indian Ocean.

She stated this during a meeting held with visiting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe this morning.

She has also stated that relations between Sri Lankan armed forces and Japanese armed forces should be made closer accordingly.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has told that peace and security in the Indian Ocean is the basis for economic stability in Sri Lanka for years.

Meanwhile, the government of Japan has decided to appoint a special envoy for Sri Lanka to coordinate the island’s sustainable development activities.

According to Japanese Cabinet Secretary Yoshihade Suga, Japanese Prime Minister’s advisor Dr. Hirotho Isumi will be appointed to the new post.

Japanese Cabinet Secretary Yoshihade Suga announced this during a discussion he held with visiting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Prime Minister’s Office this morning.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Taro Azo and thanked him for the development assistance extended to Sri Lanka by the government of Japan.
