The Health Ministry has decided to set up Dengue Intensive Care Units and quarantine off wards in the main Western, Southern and Eastern province hospitals.

These units are scheduled to be set up at the Colombo National hospital, Colombo South Teaching Hospital and the Panadura and Colombo North Teaching Hospitals.

The Health Ministry said that these units would be set up at the Hambantota, Matara and Karapitiya hospitals as well as the Trincomalee and Batticaloa hospitals.

The decision has been taken after a discussion held between subject Minister Rajita Senaratne and health officers at the Health Ministry yesterday.

It was decided that these Dengue Intensive Care Units and separate wards be set up before the 20th of this month.

According to hospital stats for 2017,  during the past period about 30,000 dengue patients have been reported.

Similarly the Health Ministry said that while currently Dengue has been observed to have spread in seven districts,  there is a decrease in the number of dengue patients reported from the Trincomalee district.
