Devala Perehara’s being hindered due to lack of availability of tamed elephants

Ruhun Kataragama Devalaya Basnayaka Nilamey D.P. Kumaragey says that there will be a dearth of tame elephants due to the Perahera of all devalas beginning at the same auspicious moment.

The Basnayak Nilamey has requested that the wildlife department release a few of the elephants the department has taken into its care. 

 A group of elephant owners including Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya and Kandy Kataragama Devalaya Basnayaka Nilameys met the Siyam Nikaya’s Malwatta and Asgiri Chapter chief incumbents yesterday.

The meeting took place to inform the chief incumbent prelates about the obstacles that were being presented with regard to conducting the Devala Perahera.
