Dumping garbage on UDA lands prohibited from May 1st

Megapolis and Western Development Ministry stated that it has banned dumping garbage in any land belonging to Urban Development Authority with effect from 1st of May.

The ministry, in its communiqué stated that local government authorities should find places to dump their garbage at their own expense hereafter.

At the same time, the Ministry has extended its deepest sympathy to the families of those who died under tragic circumstances in the Meethotamulla garbage mount collapse.

The ministry communiqué further stated that it presented a special Cabinet paper with regard to Meethotamulla garbage mount last February.

Accordingly, the ministry has instructed Colombo Municipal council to stop dumping garbage in Meethotamulla and find alternative locations.
