The government has decided to pay one hundred thousand rupees compensation to the families of each victim of the Meethotamulla garbage mount.

Maximum compensation of up to 2.5 million rupees will be paid for property damage.

A media communiqué issued by the Ministry of Finance stated that this decision was taken in a meeting held with the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The communiqué further stated that the Treasury has approved funds to provide prepared food for the displaced and action will be taken to relocate other families vulnerable to danger or repair the damaged houses.

In addition, houses will be provided in government flats to those whose houses were destroyed in the disaster.
