Demand for H1N1 antiviral drugs increases

The All Island Nurses’ Association says that the number of patients being diagnosed with H1N1 is on the increase.

Chairman of the Association Gamini Kumarasinghe noted that the Health Ministry is yet to take necessary action in order to contain the disease.

Government Medical Officers’ Association says that there is a shortage of the H1N1 virus medication known as Tami flu.

The assistant secretary of the association Dr. Haritha Aluthge noted that health officials have not taken proper action to provide this medication to hospitals.

Hiru News team contacted the Director of Medical Supplies Specialist Dr. Lal Panapitiya regarding the matter.

He noted that the demand for Tamiflu medication has increased by 15%.

However, he noted that the Ministry of Health does hold the necessary supplies of medication.
