Protests against dumping of garbage continues today

Piliyandala Residents staged a protest today against the dumping of Colombo city garbage at Karadiyana garbage yard.

Our correspondent stated that protestors had off blocked Verahera Ratmalana Road near Borupona Bridge.

As a result severe traffic congestion in the area was experienced for over an hour.

On Monday, Kesbewa Magistrate had granted permission for Colombo city garbage to be dumped at the Karadiyana garbage yard at the request of Commissioner of Colombo Municipal Council, V.K.A. Anura.

Our correspondent said that almost 30 trucks of garbage have been sent back by protestors who are still demonstrating in Karadiyana.

Meanwhile, Dompe residents staged a protest against dumping Colombo city garbage at the Garbage Processing plant in their area.

Residents also raised objections towards UNP MP Harshana Rajakarunaa when he visited the location for an inspection of the processing plant
