Day 7 of the ongoing search operation at Meethotamulla will take place today.

Army media spokesperson, Brigadier Roshan Seneviratne noted no bodies were found during the search operation yesterday.

The Army Media Spokesperson further noted that necessary support for the operations is being provided by the police and disaster management center.

1059 individuals from 245 families have been displaced, while 11 others are receiving treatment at Colombo National hospital.

The DMC noted that 8 individuals are still reported as missing.

Meanwhile, the president and prime minister have stated that the government would take sole responsibility for the Meethotamulla tragedy.

During a special discussion held at the ministry of disaster management yesterday, the president noted that a decision will have to be taken against illegal settlements.

The president added that financial compensation has not been restricted

The president had informed officials to commence with efforts to provide housing for the residents affected by the Meethotamulla garbage dump collapse.

Such efforts would be made effective as of today.
