Police fired water cannons and tear gas to disperse residents who protested against dumping garbage at Maligawatta in Dompe this afternoon.

A discussion about the Garbage of Colombo Municipal Council limit was held between police and the officials of the Dompe Waste Recycling Yard this morning.

Our correspondent stated that deputy minister Duleep Wijesekera also participated in the discussion.

At the same time, officials of the Dompe Waste Recycling Yard did not allow to dump non-separated waste in the yard.

Meanwhile, garbage trucks reached Dalatura in Muturajawela under the guard of the Special Task Force today.

However, residents blocked the road with logs and staged a protest against dumping waste from Colombo in the area.

The Negombo ASP and the Wattala Divisional Secretary also arrived at the scene to explain the situation to the protestors.

At the same time, Colombo garbage trucks dumped waste at Karadiyana in Piliyandala today on the orders issued by the Kesbewa Magistrate Court.

No public protest was held against dumping waste today.
