Latest technology must be utilized when issuing licenses for small hydro power plants – says President

President Maithripala Sirisena stated that latest technology must be used when issuing licenses for small hydro power plants.

He made this remark at the discussion held yesterday in President’s Office regarding production of renewable energy in small hydro power plants.

President Sirisena further stated that separate committees should be appointed in the relevant state organizations in order to look into the projects with loopholes.

President’s Media Division further voiced that the discussion included the possibility of expanding the volume of power received from inland small hydro power plants from 340 Megawatt up to 550 Megawatt.
