A group of residents engaged in a silent protest today against dumping garbage at the Karadiyana – Werahera waste disposal site.

A restraining order was issued by the Kesbewa Magistrate Court yesterday preventing public protests near the Karadiyana waste disposal site today.

Furthermore, Boralesgamuwa police also had obtained a restraining order from Gangodawila Magistrate Court against the protests.

The courts had stated that a peaceful protest can be allowed; however, unruly behaviour disrupting traffic will be prohibited.

However, our regional correspondents stated that around 22 garbage trucks had arrived at the Karadiyana – Werahera waste disposal site today.

Meanwhile, the search operation at the collapsed garbage mound in Meethotamulla continues for the 9th day today.
