A European Parliamentary group has tabled a resolution in the EU Parliament against granting the GSP+ concession to Sri Lanka for its exports.

28 countries are to be entitled for the tariff concession.

The EU Parliamentary group cited concerns over Sri Lanka’s slow progress on key issues like human rights.

The motion if it is to disallow granting GSP plus to Sri Lanka will require the votes of 376 out of 751 members.

The resolution will be taken up at the plenary session to be held next week.

The process of repealing and replacing the Prevention of Terrorism Act not been accomplished yet was also listed as an example by the group.
