An overnight protest carried out by Orugodawatta residents against the non-collection of garbage

Tuesday, 25 April 2017 - 7:42

People living in risk zones surrounding Meetotamulla garbage mount say that the offer of monthly compensation of 50,000-rupee for house rent over three months is not a solution to their problem.

They pointed out that if they are given compensation that would cover the total value of their houses and lands, they would then be prepared to evacuate.

Meanwhile the Kolonnawa – Orugodawatta residents staged a protest last night obstructing the Colombo – Avissawella main Road.

Residents staged this protest demanding that the garbage that has accumulated following the Meetotamulla Garbage mount slide be removed.
