Sri Lanka and India entered a memorandum of understanding today to strengthen economic, investment and development cooperation thereby passing on equal benefits to the people of both countries.

The agreement was signed after the meeting between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Indian Premier Narendra Modi in New Delhi today.

During the meeting, Indian Prime Minister Modi has stated that he is looking forward to visit Sri Lanka in next May.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe has requested to assist Sri Lanka in setting up universities and higher education institutes to teach Management, Information Technology and Engineering subjects.

Earlier, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Strategic and Internatioal Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama signed the memorandum of understanding.

Prime Minister’s Office stated that several areas of development such as natural gas, solar power, water management and agriculture will be developed with the assistance of India.
