Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj says that the Central government has initiated a program in collaboration with state governments to solve the Indi Sri Lanka fishing dispute.

This was revealed during a meeting held between the Indian External Minister and visiting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday in New Delhi.

Minister Sushma Swaraj stated that special attention has been drawn to prevent Indian fishermen from encroaching into Sri Lankan territorial waters.

She also told Premier Wickremesinghe that measures have been taken to systematically suspend the registration of controversial bottom trawling as well.

In addition the Indian Minister stated that the memorandum of understanding which was signed between the two countries yesterday is a document that aims to pass on benefits to the people of both countries.

Visiting Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said at the meeting that Indo Sri Lankan ties should be strengthened further through public and private enterprises, investment, education, cultural and social sectors.
