Parliament+meets+today+for+a+debate+on+Meetotamulla

President Maithripala Sirisena has called an emergency parliamentary meeting today to have several gazette notices relating to waste management passed.

The President issued a special gazette notice on April 20th declaring that waste disposal by every local government institution is an essential service.

Accordingly, removal of garbage from any local government institution, transportation, temporary storing, and disposal of such garbage has been declared as being essential services.

A special gazette notice should be passed by parliament within 10 days, of it being issued.
