Individual accuses police of alleged abduction in Gampola

A person from Pupuressa in Gampola accuses the police that he was arrested and assaulted severely for an offence he had not committed.

He said that he was unable to walk now as a result.

Relatives of two residents of Pupuressa, Rajathalawa and Panvilathanna in Gampola had recently complained to the Gampola police that the two persons concerned had been abducted. 

They had mentioned in the complaint that an armed group had abducted their relatives claiming that they were police officers.

However, one of the two persons was released on bail yesterday after being produced before the Gampola Magistrate.

Expressing his experience to media, the person released on bail said that the police had assaulted him.

The mother of the other person told our news team her son had also been released.  

Curfew reimposed from 2.00pm will continue until further notice.
