Special parliament debate on Methotamulla and garbage dumping commences; President also present in Parliament

Parliament session commenced this morning , with the objective of endorsing several gazette notifications with regard to waste management.

Our staff correspondent stated that President Maithripala Sirisena is present in parliament at this time  .

A special gazette notification effective from midnight April 20th  was issued by the president, declaring disposal of garbage by every local government institution as being essential.

An emergency parliament meeting has been convened today to obtain the approval of parliament for the special gazette notification.

Parliament has decided to hold a debate over the Meethotamulla incident and disposal of garbage later today.
