Colombo and Kandy all set to begin May Day parades

The most prominent political parties have made all arrangements to begin their May Day parades in just few hours from now.

In total ,  23 May Day parades and rallies will be held throughout the island.

15 of those rallies will be held in Colombo.

The UPFA May Day rally led by the SLFP will be held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Gatambe sports ground in Kandy.

Party supporters will make their to the main venue from two locations.

 The first parade will start from kandy Girls’ High School at 1:00 O’clock,

 the other parade will begin from Gannoruwa Junction.

SLFP General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake said that the party’s  theme this year is  “Eka mitata Hari Athata’ at 3  this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the UNP’s May Day parade is scheduled to began a short while ago from Maradana Junction.

supporters will parade from Punchi Borella,  and Borella to reach Campbell Park.

The UNP May Day rally will be held under the patronage of Prime Minster Ranil Wickremesinghe at 3 this afternoon.

“May Day rally of winning people” is the theme of the UNP rally this year.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has made arrangement to hold its May Day rally at Galle Face at 2.30pm.

Their  theme this year is  “Struggle to Protect the motherland, workplace and farmland”

 Political parties affiliated to the Joint Opposition and its trade unions will start their parade from Slave Island at 1 this afternoon.

The JVP will hold their rally at BRC grounds at 4pm.

the rally themed “Red May Day rally to build people’s power for national unity, social justice and economic development” will be led by party leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Meanwhile, the Front Line Socialist party has made arrangements to hold their May Day rally at Bastian Mawatha  in Pettah at 2pm.
