Protest against SAITM commenced

The island wide protest staged majoring three demands including publicizing SAITM in Malabe with the participation of several trade unions including the GMOA has commenced now.

According to the GMOA, trade unions including health, education, transport, sectors have joined with them for the protest.

Meanwhile, the Railway Control Room stated that locomotive drivers and railway guards have also commenced a one day token strike concurrent to the prevalent protest.

Accordingly, numerous trains which were scheduled to depart from Fort Railway Station have been cancelled by now.

However, Department of Railways announced that all contract locomotive drivers and railway guards who fail to report to work today will be considered as having vacated their posts.
