Dates fixed for State Minister Fowzie’s bribery case to be heard

Dates were fixed today for the bribery case filed by the Bribery Commission against State Minister A.H.M.Fowzie over alleged misuse of a government vehicle, to be heard at the Court.

The dates were fixed today when the case was called before the Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe.

President’s Counsel Shavendra Fernando who appeared on the side of the Accused stated at the last hearing that his client has been filed accusations contrary to the fundamental provisions of law, while objecting the accusation.

However, the objections were dismissed by the Colombo Chief Magistrate today and the case was ordered to be heard on the 24th of July.

The bribery case against State Minister Fowzie was filed in 2012 in line with misuse of a government vehicle worth of Rs.2 billion which had been presented to the Ministry of Disaster Management by Netherland, as the subject Minister during that period.

He has been further accused that he used the vehicle for his personal purposes incurring a loss of Rs.10 million to the government.
