Demand for water increases with the heat; difficulties in supplying water to outstations

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board stated that the demand for water has increased due to the prevailing dry weather conditions.

Its statistics have shown that the demand in Colombo and suburbs have increased by about 15%.

Chairman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, K.K.Ansaar stated that the board is doing its level best to manage the situation and meet the demand.

However, he stated that there are difficulties in distributing water to certain areas.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ajith. P. Perera speaking at a press briefing in Colombo yesterday stated that the electricity tariffs will not be increased even though hydro power generation has been limited due to the prevailing dry weather conditions.

The MET department stated that there is a possibility of rain with the south western monsoon.

Deputy Director of its forecasting division, Anusha Warnasuriya stated that the prevailing dry weather conditions will fade away towards the end of this month.
