Indian media reported that an Indian Patrol Vessel had shadowed a Chinese vessel in close proximity to Sri Lankan waters.

According to reports, the Indian patrol vessel had left the Tuticorin harbour and pursued the Chinese vessel alleging that it had entered the exclusive economic zone.

However, the matter had been later resolved as it came to light that the vessel was used for construction work at the Hambantota Harbour and had made its way to Goa – India legally, for maintenance work.

A language barrier is believed to have resulted in the misunderstanding.
