3 suspects of the Gampola kidnapping, remanded

The three suspects accused of kidnapping a two and half year old child from Gampola has been remanded until the 18th of May.

This was when the suspects were produced before the Gampola acting magistrate.

The two and half year old boy and a 26 year old youth who was with him was reported missing on the 3rd of May.

The father of the child received a phone call demanding a ransom of 3 million rupees in order to free the two abductees.

Police added that the ransom was reduced to 1 million upon negotiations by the father.

A police operation was launched in order to rescue the child, when the abducted youth was found in Kandy during search operations yesterday.

However, Police were able to find the child who was kidnapped from Gampola- Gangawata unharmed after nearly three days in Batticoloe  - Karadiyanaru yesterday.

The owner of the house and her daughter who held the child was arrested by the police, and investigations revealed that the ransom call made to the father was a plan initiated by the 26 year old youth.
