Police seizes 453 firearms and 280 hand grenades

Police headquarters have reported that 453 illegal firearms were seized during island wide raids carried out in 2016 alone.

25 T-56 firearms, 80 automatic pistols, 60 “borer-12” guns, 284 improvised guns and four more firearms were amongst those seized.
Similarly police also recovered 280 hand grenades.

While 2893 ammunition was also apprehended along with the firearms, it has also been revealed that most of the firearms were in circulation amongst criminal groups.

Police headquarters stated that 434 suspects had also been arrested at the time the illegal firearms were recovered.
