The police constable Chaminda Abeywikrema who was killed in the cross fire during Tuesdayambushed raid in front of a State bank along Piliyandala – Moratuwa Road has been posthumously promoted to the post of sergeant.

Police media spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody said that the funeral rites of his remains would be conducted with full police guard of honour at the Maarawila general cemetery on Saturday.

Minister of Law and Order Sagala Rathnayake has ordered to provide him a report with regard to the Piliyandala shooting within three days.

He has also asked taht nthe report  gives the reason for a police team to be deployed on such a raid without adhering to appropriate preparations.

The minister has appointed Senior DIG M.R. Lathif to carry out the investigation.

Meanwhile, Police Media spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody said the main suspect and the criminal network that carried out the attack on the team of officers from the Narcotic Bureau have been identified.

11 police teams have been deployed to carry out the  investigation looking into the incident.
