India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his two-day visit to Sri Lanka today, to attend the celebrations of, 'Vesak Day' as the chief guest.

Sri Lanka is hosting the United Nations International Day of Vesak this year from May 12th to 14th, under the theme "Buddhist Teachings for Social Justice and Sustainable World Peace".

The commemorations will include an International Buddhist Conference, with the participation of over 400 delegates from more than 100 countries.

Prime Minister Modi will be inaugurating the celebration in Colombo.

During the two-day trip, his second visit to Sri Lanka since becoming the Prime Minister, Modi will also visit Kandy.

Meanwhile, A special traffic plan has been implemented in Colombo in view of the Indian Prime Minister visit.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive at BIA at 6.00 this evening.

According to Police, the following routes and t by-roads will be closed as the prime minster commutes from one location to another.

He will leave for Gangaramaya at 6.15 p.m. from BIA through Katunayake Expressway, Peliyagoda, Baseline road, Borella, D.S. Junction, Green Path, Nelum Pokuna, the Library roundabout, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mw, Flower Road, Pittala junction, and James Peiris Mw.
