Sri Lanka successfully clears the last hurdle to obtain GSP Plus
The European Union has expressed approval for granting the GSP Plus relief to Sri Lanka.
Reports say that EU’s foreign affairs and trade ministers who assembled at Brussels had given the relevant approval.
During Sri Lanka’s last regime the EU had taken action to abolish the GSP Plus tariff relief that had been given for exports from Sri Lanka including ready-made garments.
Meanwhile the resolution moved against the grant of GSP Plus tariff relief to Sri Lanka was also defeated by a majority of 317 votes at the European parliament.
Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva told our news team that it was now possible to export 6600 goods sans tariff to 28 European countries.
