Indian Prime Minister meets the President - Discussions Focus on Buddhism and promotion of tourism

President Maithreepala Sirisena met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last night who is currently in the island to attend the United Nations 14th International Vesak Festival.

The Indian Prime minister arrived at the presidents house upon his arrival in sri lanka, and was warmly welcomed by the president.

A special dinner was also prepared for the Indian primier at the presidents house.

The president’s media unit noted that discussions were had relating to  Buddhism and improving tourism between the two countries.

A media briefing was convened yesterday under the patronage of the high commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Tharanjith Singh Sandu regarding the Premier Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka.

During the briefing, the Indian high commissioner shared details about the  Prime minister visit.

In addition a meeting between the Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Indian Premier had been held previously.

This was upon a request made by the former president.

High commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Tharanjith Singh Sandu expressed these views regarding the matter.

Meanwhile, the 14thUnited Nations International Vesak Festival is scheduled to commence in Colombo this morning under the patronage of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Further the Indian Premier is to engage in a visit in Kandy and Hatton today.
