Doctors request an immediate investigation into the hand grenade at the SLMC premises

Saturday, 13 May 2017 - 18:39

Upon an order given by Senior Deputy Inspector General Nandana Munasinghe, investigations have commenced into the incident where a live hand grenade was found from the premises of the Sri Lanka Medical Council located along Norris Canal Road in Colombo 10.

Accordingly, officers of the CID collected evidence by visiting the location.

Further forensic officers have also collected evidence.

The security guard on duty last night had heard the sound of an object been thrown at the building and had investigated the matter.

It was this morning that the object thrown was identified as a hand grenade and the Maradana Police had been alerted accordingly.

The Maligakanda magistrates court was informed of the matter, and according to an order issued by the magistrate, the Police STF had diffused the grenade.

Meanwhile, the JVP issuing a statement noted that it strongly condemns the live grenade attack at the SLMC.

They noted that at an instance where the abolish SAITM battle takes place, it is not puzzling to decipher the aim behind the attack.

The JVP further notes that an impartial investigation should be conducted and those responsible should be brought before the law.

GMOA editor, Dr. Nalinda Herath stated at a media briefing held in Colombo today that a period of one week would be given to the government in order to take action regarding the matter.
