Power change in Provincial Council further heats up

Opposition Leader of the North Central Provincial Council Anil Rathnayaka has challenged to change control of the Provincial Council before the next session.

He stated that there was no possibility in doing so.

However, Former Minister S M Chandrasena recently stated that it was possible to appoint a Chief Minister with the support of the majority.

A majority of Councillors of the North Central Provincial Council have decided to pledge support to the Joint Opposition following a discussion with Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

However, commenting on the matter Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake said that power in provincial councils cannot be changed abruptly.
