Inter university students’ protest march banned

Tuesday, 16 May 2017 - 23:47

Colombo Chief Magistrate Laal Ranasinghe Bandara has issued an injunction order preventing the protest march that was scheduled to be staged by the Inter-university students’ federation and the Medical Faculty  steering committee in several locations around Colombo today and tomorrow.

The Chief Magistrate had issued the restraining order after considering   the information Cinnamon Garden Police had provided stating that there were preparations for staging agitations and protest marches in a manner that would impede public peace and obstruct people’s daily activities.

The inter-university federation and the medical students’ steering committee were due to launch protest marches over several educational issues including abolishing Malabe Private Medical College, which was intended to be staged infront of Colombo Ward Place,  the national hospital, the eye hospital and the Higher Education Ministry.
