Wednesday, 17 May 2017 - 8:17

The Ceylon Electricity Board and the Lanka Private Electricity Company have provided the opportunity for  household electricity consumers to choose a time-based billing system that permits altering their electricity consumption pattern.

The Public Utilities Commission has granted approval for implementing this system according to a proposal the CEB had  submitted.

according to the time electricity consumption occurs the cost per unit from 10.30  p.m. till 5. 30 a.m. will be Rs. 13.

The cost per unit from 5. 30 a.m. till 6.30 p.mwill bes Rs. 25 per unit.

The cost for a unit from 6.30 p.m. till 10.30 p.m will be Rs. 54.

The ministry of Power and Energy says that an increase in fare for consumers is not intended as a result of the introduction of this electricity costing system.

The aim of the new system is to minimize electricity consumption during peak time, from  6.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

Similarly the ministry of Electricity and renewable power said that it was not compulsory for consumers to subscribe to any of the options.
