Police have arrested an individual with 1.5 kgs of heroin in possession worth over 10 million rupees in Mundalama – Sinnapaadu.

Police noted that heroin known as brown sugar was found this morning at the residence of an individual engaged in commercial fishing.

The suspect is to be produced before  Puttlam magistrate’s court today. 

Heroin with face value of 2000 million rupees have been seized within a week of the piliyandala shooting where officers from the Police Narcotic Bureau in Piliyandala were targeted.

The shoot out occurred in front of a state bank on Piliyandala Moratuwa road on May 9th.

One officer died in the cross fire and another two officers, including IP Neomal Rangajeewa are still receiving treatment at Colombo National Hospital.

Two days after the incident, 200 kilograms of heroin were seized from the Chilaw coastal area.

The Following day, another stock of heroin worth of 100 million rupees was seized while it was floating in the sea off Kankasanthurai.

Another 4 kilograms of heroin with a face value of 40 million rupees were discovered amongst a heap of garbage at D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha in Colombo.

In addition, a Pakistani national was arrested at Katunayake International Airport when he attempted to smuggle in one kilogram of the brown sugar variety heroin.

Meanwhile, IGP Pujitha Jayasundera told our news team that all suspects involved in the Piliyandala shooting have already been identified.
