The eight students, including a monk arrested during the anti SAITM protest yesterday have been remanded until tomorrow.

The suspects were produced before Colombo chief magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara this morning.

The suspects were arrested by police for engaging in protests in violation of a Court ruling.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesman’s office stated that 5 police officers who were injured in the clash are receiving treatment at Narahenpita police hospital.

4 university students  who were also  injured during the clash are receiving treatment at Colombo National hospital.

The march in protest of 15 issues including cancellation of Malabe Private Medical School was launched by IUSF, university monks’ federation and the medical faculty student’s activists committee.

The protest began from Fort Railway station yesterday afternoon.

In an attempt to contain the commotion, Police fired tear gas at protestors as they attempted to reach the University Grants Commission.

Later protestors assembled at Viharamahadevi Park.

The protest dispersed at around 8pm.
