Rain disrupts lives in Colombo, Kiribathgoda Vesak pandal also collapses

Heavy traffic was reported after trees were uprooted blocking several major roads by the heavy rain that lashed in Colombo and its suburbs this afternoon.

Police stated that trees along Lotus Road, Darley Road, Bullers Lane and the road near the National Museum had uprooted.

Meanwhile, 20 houses at Subhuthipura in Battaramulla were damaged by strong winds and the Vesak Pandal erected at the Kiribathgoda town also collapsed damaging 4 stationary vehicles nearby.

Our correspondents stated that several roads in the city were flooded due to heavy rain.

Meanwhile the Meteorological Department forecasts thunder showers of over 100 millimetres in several provinces in the next few hours.

Meteorologist on duty Buddhika Bandurathna stated that wind speeds could increase from 60 to 70 kmph in the sea areas around the island.
