GMOA prepares to strike over attack on university students

The GMOA is planning to launch a half a day token strike on May 22nd in protest of the tear gas attack on the anti SAITM protest march yesterday.

GMOA editor Dr. Nalinda Herath stated that this decision was taken during an executive committee meeting held today.

In addition, GMOA stated that it will discuss with Labour Minister W.D.J. Senevirathna about the government’s suppressive measures against trade unions.

Meanwhile, convenor of the Inter University Students’ Federation, Lahiru Weerasekera stated that the anti SAITM protest campaign will be carried forward despite all sorts of suppressions.

In addition, protests were held at several universities against police firing tear gas at the anti SAITM protest march yesterday.

Meanwhile the 8 students including a student monk who were arrested during the protest were remanded today by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara.
