Public warned to be cautious of strong winds

The MET department says that due to active clouds in the south- east of Sri Lanka, heavy showers or thundershowers and strong winds may occur in the eastern – south eastern shallow and deep sea areas in the next 36 hours.

The department noted that coastal areas around the island can be very rough at times as the wind speed may increase upto 60-70 kmph at times.

The department further noted that the naval and fishing community to be vigilant in this regard.

Meanwhile, the deputy director of the Disaster Management Center, Pradeep Kodipilli noted that the public should be cautious of strong windy conditions prevailing.

He further explained regarding the situation which had arisen owing to strong winds.
