Nine Cabinet Ministers and one State minister took oaths before the President in their new portfolios this morning under the first Cabinet reshuffle of the Unity Government.

Accordingly, former Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera was sworn in as the new Finance Minister while former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake was sworn in as the new Foreign affairs Minister at the Presidential Secretariat.

Former minister of Skills Development and Vocation Training Mahinda Samarasinghe has been appointed as the new minister of Ports and Shipping replacing minister Arjuna Ranatunga who has been appointed minister of Petroleum Resources Development.

Former minister of  Petroleum Resources Development chandima weerakody will now oversee the ministry of Skills Development and Vocation Training.

Thilak Maarapana who resigned from the ministry of Law and Order and Prison Reforms following the controversial Avant Garde incident in 2015 has been appointed as the minister of Development Affairs.

At the same time, former Minister of Mass Meida  Gayantha Karunathilaka was sworn in as the minister of Land and Parliamentary Affairs.

Meanwhile, Mahinda Amaraweera has been appointed the state minister of Mahaweli Development in addition to his current Fisheries Ministry portfolio.

President Sirisena functions as the Cabinet Minister of Mahaweli Development.

In addition to overseeing the Social Empowerment Ministry, S.B. Dissanayake has been appointed as the Up country Development Affairs Minister.

W.D.J. Senevirathna has been appointed minister of Sabaragamu Development in addition to his current portfolio as minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations.
