Hospital functions disrupted by GMOA strike

Hospitals throughout the country have been disrupted by the strike launched by members of the GMOA this morning.

The strike was  launched against 4 issues including an alleged plan to imprison the president of the GMOA Specialist Dr. Anuruddha Paadeniya.

The strike which began at 8 this morning will continue till 8am tomorrow.

It was reported that OPD sections of many major hospitals have been crippled due to the strike.

However, GMOA editor Dr. Nalinda Herath said that their trade union actions are not being implemented in several hospitals including Lady Ridgeway Children Hospital, Castle Street Women’s Hospital and Maharagama Apeksha Hospital.

Meanwhile, Colombo National Hospital Director Dr. Anil Jasinghe said daily clinics have been negatively impacted  by the strike.

At the same time, the Director of Kandy general Hospital Dr. Nissanka Wijewardana said clinics and OPD services have been crippled due to the ongoing strike.

It is reported that thousands of patients who sought treatment at government hospitals are facing grave inconveniences.
