Police fired tear gas to disperse a protest march launched by the members of the Medical Faculty Students’ Parents Association this afternoon.

Police closed the road from Lotus Roundabout when the protestors attempted to forcibly march towards the Presidential Secretariat.

Police tried to negotiate with the protestors by allowing one of their representatives to meet some officials from the Presidential Secretariat.

However, they demanded that the particular officials should visit them instead.

As negotiations failed, protestors attempted to clear road blocks and forcibly walk forward along Lotus road.

At that moment, police fired water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Meanwhile, a photo journalist was hospitalized after he sustained injuries during the tear gas and water cannon attack. A hospital spokesperson said that his condition is not critical.
