The irrigation department says that heavy showers are causing Kalu, Nilwalaa, Ging and Kelani rivers water levels to rise.

Irrigation Department Aquatic Science Division Directress Premaa Hattiarachchi told our news team that residents in low lying areas close to the riverbanks should be on alert.

The met department states that South-west monsoon conditions are likely to establish over the country during next few days.

Hence Showery and windy condition are expected to enhance over the south-western part of the country.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces.

Duty Meteorologist Kasun Pascual stated that Heavy falls with rainfall exceeding 150 mili meters can be expected in certain regions.

The National Building Research Organisation says that there is a risk of landslides during the 24 hours in the Ratnapura, Kegalle, Kalutara, Kandy, Galle, Matara districts.

Meanwhile  Navy media spokesman,  lieutenant Commander Chaminda Valaakulugey says that the 19 trawlers that set sail with 67 fishermen from Eravoor  that was reported missing had returned safely.

Following reports that the trawlers were missing, a search operation had been  launched with the deployment of Doraa vessels.

However the fishermen returned to bay and informed police of their safe return.
