Police officer injured in misfire during a scuffle with a ransom collector

A police officer was injured as his service weapon misfired when police were attempting to arrest a group of ransom collectors in Hettimulla Kegalle.

A local businessman had made a complaint about receiving death threats targeting his family and himself,  from a ransom group.

It was during an attempt made by police to arrest the group that the weapon misfired.

The ransom group were intercepted as they attempted to collect 3 million rupees from the victim.

The service weapon of one policeman misfired, as the ransom collector resisted arrest and entered into a scuffle with the officers.

The policeman and one of his fellow officers were both injured in that instant.

The two officers have been admitted to Kegalle Hospital.

Police were able to follow one of the ransom collectors make an arrest.

Investigations will continue until the other members of the group have been arrested.
