Principals granted authority to close schools in areas affected by adverse weather

The Minister of Education has granted authority to the principals of schools in areas affected by the inclement weather, to decide whether schools should be held or not.

The Ministry of Education announced that principals have been granted permission to decide if schools should be held or not considering the risk prevailing in the area around the school.

Furthermore, Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has issued directives to authorities to provide a report immediately on school children affected by the adverse weather conditions.

The Ministry of Education stated that the report is required to provide text books, uniforms and other necessary materials to such students.

Meanwhile, Chief Ministers have stated that schools in areas affected by the Disaster situation in Western and Southern provinces will be closed tomorrow due to the prevailing disaster situation.

The Ministry of Education of the Sabaragamuwa Province has also decided that schools in Ratnapura and Niwithigala will be closed tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Media Division of University of Kelaniya noted that its external degree examinations which were scheduled to be held on the 4th of June, have been postponed until further notice.
