Death Toll due to adverse weather rises to 166; 102 reported missing and 88 injured

As a consequence of the severe weather the death toll has risen to 166.

The latest communiqué issued by the Disaster Management Centre states that 88 persons have been injured, whilst 104 persons have been reported missing.

At this stage, the highest number of deaths being 71 , was been reported from Ratnapura district

53 persons died in the Kalutara district and 21 deaths were reported in Matara.

Meanwhile, 471 thousand 542 persons have been affected by the extreme weather .

412 houses have been destroyed, and 4 thousand 266 houses have been damaged.

The Disaster Management Center further stated in its communiqué that 75 thousand 236 persons have been sheltered in 336 makeshift camps following floods and landslides.

33 thousand 248 persons are from the Ratnapura district, 17 thousand 147 persons from Gampaha district and 9 thousand 370 persons are from the Matara district.
